A Selected Reading List
Suggestions for Reading to Facilitate Study
in Particular Areas of the History of Buddhism

The selection is intended to be a practical, introductory guide for reading or research on the history of Buddhism. It is by no means an exhaustive bibliography. It contains only books and monographs - no journal articles - and confines itself where possible to accessible works with significant historical and/or sociological content. Most of the works listed are in English and in print, or at least widely available in libraries.
